The cottonweed musu, Hoppip, are a common sight throughout Johto. As the musu is easily carried by the winds twisting the “propeller” wings atop their heads that take them to and fro. When we say carried, we’re being quite literal. As Hoppip are significantly lighter than air. To the point that even light breezes can send them flying for kilometers in a given direction. What they weigh exactly, we aren’t sure. As the musu is too light to register on our scales. If a Hoppip doesn’t wish to be sent flying, it requires a Entien effort to stay put, usually involving them holding onto something for dear life. Often times they’ll do this if they find a human they like. Hoppip have acquired a sizable number of fans across the region. With many villages holding festivals to honor the seasonal arrival of Hoppip in spring and summer. Many fans refer to themselves as “airheads” and wear hats with propellers that match Hop-pip’s. Fighting isn’t an option for most Hoppip as they lack any significant strength or magical aptitude. Thankfully the musu’s light weight makes it so that the air displacement from most physical attacks will send Hoppip flying harmlessly away from said attacker. sTrainer Tips Farmers in particular appreciate Hoppip, as they will volunteer to spread seeds as they are sent flying across their fields. "Like they say, I'm as free as a Hoppip and this Hoppip you can't ch A A A A A HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH-” - Haneko, a Hoppip we approached for interview, she was blown away before we could get a complete statement from her.. i42cm 170cm They say once a Hoppip absorbs enough sunlight, their propeller leaves bloom into a flower. After this change we refer to the musu as Skiploom. In this state the musu's coloration goes from pink to green and they grow fla-ppy dewlaps on the sides of their head which allegedly gives them more speed when flying. While Hoppip are at the mercy of wind patterns to guide their travel, Skip-loom have gained enough mass to control their path of flight. Generally they prefer to float upward in the mornings, as they enjoy the sun's rays but as it starts to set, the sky grows cold and they descend to huddle and keep warm. Human's typically see Skiploom more at night, since they float too high during the day for most people to interact with them. Though Skiploom abhor the cold and aren't typically the most talkative at this time. However, some clever teahouse owners will invite the musu to stay in their warm parlors during the night in exchange for some of their sweet flower nectar. This is where a great deal of research on the musu is done. Skiploom have few options when confronted. Their slow movement speed makes it difficult for them to flee and they have few combat options among their abilities. sTrainer Tips Many who attempt to bond with Skiploom will offer heavy coats to help them battle the cold. Though they gene-) rally don't have much use for such articles as the heavy fabrics weigh them down enough to interfere with their flight. ''You'll never catch me science man, not after I shift into MAXIMUM OVERDRIVE!” - Ayaka, a Skiploom whom attempted to escape interview by flying away. She was too slow to escape but researchers honored her wishes and left her alone. Threat Level: Low ф
189 JUMPLUFF 16ZC eed Pokemusu After acquiring even more sunlight, Skiploom undergo another change in physiology, with their flower blooming into a cotton bulb along with secondary cotton bulbs appearing on their hands. This new form we call Jumpluff. The reason for bulbs appearing on their hands isn't currently known and can actually can get in the way of the musu grabbing things. However the benefits of the cotton far outweigh the annoyance. As the seeds have a rare magical trait that allows them to intake 1000s of times the volume of air one would think possible for them. Thus allowing the musu to fly with incredible ease. While Jumpluff get most of their power from their cotton, most seek to spread their seeds around rather than hold onto them. Because of this, most of the musu travel far and wide to find kind farmers who could use help and plant some of the powerful cotton on their plots. Jumpluff’s seeds don’t grow back once separated and if they give away all of them, they become no stronger than humans. Despite this, most Jumpluff do finish their journey by giving away their cotton and retire to humble living. sTrainer Tips Older literature postures that Jumpluff could be distant relatives to Oddish but there's little research to support this. ''Sorry but this isn't going to work. You're great and all but I'm doing this cotton thing right now and I really need to be going 100% into this and if I'm not and it's because of you then it's going to spiral and get ugly and ... it's just not going to work.” - A breakup note from Haruka, a Jumpluff.
